Tightness can indeed be a reason we avoid poses, but skeletal variation is another big reason. If you don't enjoy a pose, it's possible your bones aren't predisposed to forming particular shape. Regardless of the reason, if you struggle with a pose so much that you want to avoid it, then it's better to find a variation or modification that will stretch the same target area while being more enjoyable.
