Members, I’d love to hear more about your self-care routine. ☯️💪🧘🏽

By definition, yin yoga is an incomplete practice. It should ideally be balanced by active exercise — or yang activity. While this app offers some dynamic practices, it’s primarily designed to focus on the yin side of things — slowing down and tuning in.

Many members do stronger exercise at home, at the gym, or outdoors. What does this look like for you? Do you include strength training or cardio? Do you walk, run or swim?

Overall, how does this app and membership fit into your daily life? As I learn about your routine, it helps me curate the app to best serve this wonderful yoga community. 🌿

Hello everyone,

Can anyone suggest a good video for when feeling run down to give a bit of an energy boost.

Thanks in advance 😁

Can someone please direct me to a video with poses to deep stretch the shoulders and neck please? I suffer with headaches which I believe are due to tension pressurising the upper cervical region of my neck and head.

Members: What are your favorite yoga tweaks?

One of the best things about practicing yoga at home is that we can adjust poses to suit our own bodies. At in-person classes, sometimes we feel pressure to conform – even if things don't feel quite right.

Is there a particular pose you tend to modify every time it comes up?

Here's an example from my own practice: While I enjoy downward dog, it's not a restful position for me. This is likely due to the way my upper body is built. When teachers say to "rest" in dog for more than a few breaths, I typically shorten it and drop into plank pose or child's.

I'd love to hear about the modifications you regularly do in your practice – share in a comment below! 🌿👇🏽

(Red Pine)

I feel compelled to share this with my circle. For some time now, I’ve been seeking new readings—perhaps sutras—to accompany my daily practice. After nearly two years with the Radiance Sutras, I sensed it was time for a shift. I’ve read the Yoga Sutras and am nearly through the Heart Sutra, in a translation and commentary by the renowned Red Pine (Bill Porter). At the end of the book’s long introduction, I was surprised to discover he now lives in the same town as I do.

Curious, I did a bit of searching to confirm where he lived, though I had no intention of approaching him—not until I felt more grounded in his work. I learned there’s a documentary about his life called Dancing with the Dead, which chronicles his thirty years in China.

I watched it, it was amazing. What a remarkable life, translating ancient Chinese poetry, visiting mountain hermits, and offering so many luminous works to the world.

Then today, while walking my two dogs in Chetzemoka Park, I started down the path to the beach but turned back, thinking it would be too muddy. And there he was, Red Pine. We greeted each other, shook hands, and had a lovely conversation. I’ll admit, I was a bit awe-struck.

Next week, two of his translated works are set to arrive: The Collected Songs of Cold Mountain and The Mountain Poems of Stonehouse. I plan to draw my daily readings from these.  I definitely feel they found me...

New in the App: Streaks & Badges!

I’m excited to share two new features we’re trying out in the app:

📅 Streaks – Your practice days are now automatically tracked in the Calendar tab. You’ll be able to see how many days in a row you’ve shown up for yourself.

🏅 Badges – These fun, motivational awards appear when you hit milestones:

  • 3-Day Devoted Seeker

  • 7-Day Steadfast Practitioner

  • 15-Day Master of Consistency

  • 30-Day Luminous Leader

Let’s set a collective goal to begin our best streak yet starting October 1st. Whether it’s 3 days or 30 days, every streak is a celebration of your practice.

This is a brand-new experiment, and I’d love your feedback as we launch it. Try it out, see how it feels, and let me know what you think in the comments.

Members, I’d love your feedback on the yoga calendar.

Starting this season, we have enough classes in the catalog for a daily yoga schedule — without repeating classes for an entire year!

Of course, I know how full everyone’s lives are. The new daily calendar doesn’t mean you’re expected to practice every day. It’s simply a guide, taking the guesswork out of what to choose whenever you log on.

You may have noticed I’ve been creating more shorter classes recently, with the idea that daily practice can feel more doable when sessions are under 20 or 30 minutes.

How often do you practice right now? And does the daily calendar feel helpful for you?

🌿Schedule change to upcoming live sessions:

To accommodate some travel, Yin Hour will be held on the second Tuesday of the month in October and November instead of the first. Please mark your calendar for October 14 and November 11.

We'll meet on Zoom as before – it was such a joy seeing you all practicing from your own spaces last time. I especially loved the member chat afterwards, which was so connecting. 💕🌈
