Bija mantras are ancient but it's hard to trace their roots since most of the practices have been learned via the oral tradition. This particular chanting melody and pattern does not have any ancient roots that are traceable, but it learned it from Paul Grilley. I wish I knew of an authoritative source to direct you toward for more information, but I don't at this moment.
